My love of flowers has grown since childhood when I would spend mornings exploring my grandmother’s garden. I oftentimes will work on floral pieces during the middle of winter when I miss their bright colors.

Inspiration comes from soaking in my surroundings… There is always anticipation of what lies ahead and there is an appreciation, a richness and grandeur that brings a sense of space and place.

This series was created for the Steamboat Art Museum Store. I use a “Sgraffito” technique using a fine black glass on glass base. It is “Subtractive” technique where I apply the fine black glass and then scrape/scratch away and manipulate it with various tools. Once the Sgraffito scene is in place I layer it with additional glasses until I am satisfied with the final composition.
